Join PRIME TIME™ on Wednesday, August 23 as we head to Newport, RI for a day of Mansions & Motorcars. The day begins at Rough Point Museum, former home of the reclusive tobacco heiress and philanthropist, Doris Duke. Also known as “the richest little girl in the world," Doris inherited an estimated $100 million at the age of 12. Her magnificent ocean-front ‘summer cottage’ is filled with French furniture, European art, Chinese porcelains, Turkish carpets and remains just as she left it. Take a step back in time and see how she lived in this extravagant mansion filled with wall-to-wall eclectic style.
Following our visit to Rough Point, we’ll leave Newport’s ‘posh’ Belleview Avenue and make our way to the ‘vibrant and happening’ Thames Street for lunch at Buskers Irish Pub. After dessert, there’s free time to spend any way you wish. Take a stroll down the cobblestone streets, do some shopping in the charming boutiques or simply grab a park bench for some people watching.The possibilities are endless and the choice is all yours!
Later, we’ll end our day with a visit to Audrain Auto Museum. Described as more of an art museum than a car museum, this collection is comprised of the rarest and most remarkable automobiles from 1899 to modern day.
